A Streamlined Process for Self-Service Test Data Provisioning

by admin on Oct 21, 2020

This past year, our development team has been focused on two critically important themes: The enterprise scalability of our platform and streamlining the user experience with a powerful self-service capability. In this edition of the GenRocket Advisor, we describe a methodology for solving any test data challenge that leverages both of these greatly enhanced capabilities.

The GenRocket Methodology is a structured approach for using GenRocket to its full potential. It’s a repeatable 4-step process that guides the tester through the many features available for configuring and generating real-time synthetic test data.

Step 1: MODEL
As a first step, the data environment is modeled in the system. There are 10 different ways to import a data model and a helpful wizard is used to create referential integrity.

Step 2: DESIGN
The next step is to design the test data that will maximize coverage as each test case is prepared for execution. Powerful self-service modules define the rules, data variations, and volume of data to be generated.

Step 3: DEPLOY
Once designed, a test data case, story or epic is used to generate synthetic data in the required output format and deployed into a test automation framework for real-time execution during testing.

Step 4: MANAGE
The final step is to manage your test data designs so they can be copied, versioned, repurposed or combined in multiple ways to support complex integration testing.

Read more about the GenRocket Methodology in this informative blog post. It contains links to our newly restructured knowledge base where you can explore each step of the process in more detail to get ideas and examples for creating your own test data designs.
