Recapping the 2019 Software Testing Conference

We wanted to share a few take-aways from our participation in STC2019 earlier this month. The event was well attended and the GenRocket solution was extremely well received by attendees.

Test Data is Hot

Test data has always been a topic of interest for anyone in QA, however this show amplified the need for test data like never before. Several of our partners are telling us that 2 to 4 months ago test data became a hot button and many of their customers are now looking for better solutions. We believe the growing use of test automation and the adoption of DevOps and Agile best practices are driving the need for accelerated, if not continuous testing. This of course puts a spotlight directly on the speed of test data provisioning.

Test Data Automation is a Hit

We used the STC event to roll out our new focus on Test Data Automation, a position that elevates the GenRocket solution from a synthetic Test Data Generation platform to one that meets the needs of any test data challenge. Test Data Automation combines queried production data with synthetic test data in a self-service provisioning model that integrates with test automation tools and frameworks. It was a big hit. Everyone presented with this expanded view of test data provisioning instantly “got it”.

This creates an opportunity for all of us to be thought leaders and spread the word about the evolution of traditional Test Data Management to become Test Data Automation. The TDM model, with its focus on copying, subsetting, masking and modifying production data, has become too cumbersome for the speed of Agile. With GenRocket, test data can be reimagined as an integral part of any software test plan. Now you can define your test case goals and test data requirements as a unified process. GenRocket enables automated test tools to generate test data dynamically during test execution. The result is continuous test data for continuous testing.

Challenge Potential Customers to Think Differently about Test Data

We’ve put together a new digital asset to help you tell the Test Data Automation story. Use it with customers and prospects to start a conversation. And here are few bullet points to get you thinking as well. They represent real-world test data challenges that can be readily solved with GenRocket’s Test Data Automation solution.

  • Do your customers struggle with any of these test data challenges?
  • Provisioning dynamic test data to validate the business logic of workflows
  • Ensuring dynamic data is returned to its original state preserving test integrity
  • Blending production data and synthetic data to maximize test coverage
  • Quickly masking sensitive production data with synthetic data replacement
  • Generating millions of test data rows for load and performance testing
  • Provisioning test data on-demand using a self-service model for testers

These are all cues for introducing GenRocket as an alternative to cumbersome TDM solutions or the manual creation of test data using an excel spreadsheet. If your customers struggle with any of these challenges, let us help you to help them.

GenRocket Capabilities – What’s New

There are several exciting new features we’ve added to the GenRocket platform during this past quarter. Here is a summary of the top 3 and a link to our knowledgebase to learn more.

1. Parquet File format
Parquet stores data in a flat columnar format. It is more efficient in terms of storage and performance in the Hadoop ecosystem. We have released the ParquetFileReceiver to generate files in Parquet File Format. To learn more about this Receiver, click here.

2. Import XSD to Generate Test Data for Complex Nested XML
By importing an XSD into the GenRocket web platform, you’re just a few steps away from generating any of the XML test data necessary for your test cases. An XSD enables GenRocket to automatically create Domains, Attributes and other necessary components that represent the XML document. To learn more about how to use the XSD Importer, click here.

3. Create Domains by importing JSON

You can now quickly set up your Project by importing JSON to create the Domains in GenRocket. Here are the various other ways to create GenRocket Projects. Click here to learn more.

From all of us at GenRocket…
