How to Generate Test Data Using Test Data Stories
To generate test data for a Test Data Story or G-Story, users will need to complete the following steps:
- Download each Scenario, Scenario Chain, and Scenario Chain Set added as a Chapter Component
- Download each Test Data Case Suite added as a Chapter Component
- Download the Test Data Story Suite or G-Story Suite
- Copy the Command Line for a Story within the G-Stories Management Dashboard
- Open a Command Prompt or Terminal window and run the command
Note: The larger a Story, the more items a user will need to download to run the command and generate test data. G-Repository and/or G-Repository Client can be utilized to decrease this workload by ensuring the required, most up-to-date Scenarios and Instruction Sets are available to users automatically on their local computer.
Step 1: Download each Scenario, Scenario Chain, and Scenario Chain Set
Each Scenario, Scenario Chain, and Scenario Chain Set added as a Component to Chapters within a Story will need to be downloaded to the user’s local computer.
Select a Project and Project Version within the Project Dashboard. Then, click on the Download (Cloud) icon for each Scenario, Scenario Chain, and Scenario Chain Set.
Step 2: Download each Test Data Case Suite
Next, each Test Data Case Suite (or individual Test Data Case) will need to be downloaded to the user’s local computer.
This can be done by clicking on the Download (Cloud) icon for an entire G-Case Suite within the G-Cases Management Dashboard.
It can also be done by clicking on the Download (Cloud) icon for a Test Case Category. This method can be used to download individual test cases within a suite as one file. For more information, click here.
Step 3: Download the Test Data Story Suite
The Test Data Story or G-Story Suite will need to be downloaded to the user’s local computer to generate test data. This can be done by clicking on the Download (Cloud) icon for a suite within the G-Stories Management Dashboard.
Step 4: Copy the Command Line for a Story
The Command Line needed to generate test data using a Story can be found at the bottom of the G-Stories Management Dashboard. This command line will change depending on what Story has been selected.
Additionally, a Story having a Parent Story will inherit the Parent Story’s Chapters. Inherited Chapters can be disabled or enabled before downloading the Story Suite.
Step 5: Run the Story Command
First, open a Command Prompt or Terminal window.
Next, change the directory to match the path defined for the resource.home.directory Organization Resource within the web platform.
Paste the command line into the Command Prompt or Terminal window and press the Enter key to run it.
