Named Server Management

This lesson will show how to view and manage Named Servers within GenRocket for your Organization. Only Organization Admins can add a new Named Server to the GenRocket Web platform.

What is a Named Server?

Often Software Testers have requirements to install GenRocket Runtime on a Testing Automation Server so that it can run Test Data Generation Scenarios. We call this type of server a Named Server.

Any Named Server that is executing GenRocket Scenarios, to generate synthetic test data, needs to be registered in the GenRocket system. When software tests are run on an automation server and call GenRocket Scenarios to generate synthetic test data, a license check is made to validate the Named Server.

We use the term, Named Server, because Test Automation Servers are sometimes changed; so, the named server can be reassigned to a new Test Automation Server.

How do you set up and use Named Servers in GenRocket?

  1. Add a Named Server to your Organization
  2. Assign a valid License to the Named Server
  3. Download the Server Profile to the Server

After a Server has been added and assigned a valid License, it becomes a Named Server. Then, an Organization Admin can download the Server Profile so that the Server may be used to execute GenRocket Scenarios.

How to Access and Manage Named Servers

The My Organization Dashboard can be accessed by performing the following steps within the web platform:

  • Expand the Organization Menu within the Menu Bar.
  • Select My Organization.

Organization Information, Users, and Named Servers can be managed through the My Organization Dashboard. An Organization Admin can manage Named Servers in the following ways:

  • Add and Manage Named Servers
  • Assign, Un-Assign, and Re-Assign Licenses for Named Servers

Manage Users Pane

The Manage Users Pane can be used to manage Users and Named Servers for your Organization. It contains two tabs: Users and Servers.

Within the Servers Tab, you can add and manage Named Servers:

Manage Licenses Pane

The Manage Licenses Pane shows each available User and Named Server License for your Organization. It contains two tabs: User Licenses and Server Licenses.

Within the Server Licenses Tab, you can see what licenses have been assigned to Named Servers. It can be used to assign, un-assign, or re-assign licenses for Named Servers within your Organization.
