How to Import a CSV File

A Domain may be created from a CSV File by performing a CSV Import. This lesson will show how to create a Domain by importing a CSV File.

How to create a Domain from a CSV File

Step 1: In the Projects Dashboard, select a Project and Project Version.

Note: Make certain the appropriate Project Version has been selected if more than one version exists within the Project.

Step 2: Navigate to the Domains Pane. Expand the New Domain drop-down menu and select the Import from CSV option.

Step 3: Enter a new Name for the new Domain.

Step 4: Specify the delimiter in the CSV file (Comma, Tab, Semicolon, etc.). For this example, Comma has been chosen.

Step 5: Click on Choose File to browse to and upload your CSV file.

Step 6: Click the Save button.

Step 7: Specify the Generator Type. When uploading a CSV file as a Domain, you have three options for the Generator type: Static, Dynamic, and Synthetically Generated.

Note: A full explanation of each option has been provided in Lesson 1 of this training module.

These options determine how data is generated for the Domain when running a Scenario, Scenario Chain, or Scenario Chain Set.

  • Dynamic Data from CSV – Data in CSV is loaded dynamically when the Scenario is run. This option should be used for files with 16 or more lines of data.
  • Static Data from CSV – Data in CSV is loaded statically when the Scenario is run. This option can only be used for files with less than 16 lines of data.
  • Synthetically Generated – A Generator will be assigned automatically to each Attribute within the created Domain. Data will be synthetically generated for each Domain Attribute.

Note: When uploading a CSV file that has more than 15 lines of data, you need to provide the File Name and File Path, so that it can be read dynamically by ListCSVGen generator while running a Scenario.

Step 8: Select Attributes to generate data for. Click the checkbox for each of the Attributes that data should be generated for. Select the checkbox at the top to select all the Attributes.

Step 9: Click Save when you are done selecting your Attributes.
